Leadership Development Initiative (LDI)

Chair: Kara Kubarych

Kara Kubarych, LDI Chair

Kara Kubarych is the Chair of the Leadership Development Initiative and has also enjoyed working with the Social Outreach and Magazine committees of the Leadership Institute. Kara is passionate about service and leadership and is particularly interested in social enterprise. She has been involved in a range of initiatives, from starting a summer camp business to fund her work with Sudanese refugee teens to co-founding Nika Water Co., a social venture whose profits support clean water projects around the world. She is chair of the Igniting Innovation Summit on Social Entrepreneurship at Harvard and is co-founder of the Harvard Social Innovation Collaborative, among other service and writing activities. Studying Government with a secondary in Health Policy, Kara is interested in how industry leaders and policy makers can work together to create sustainable change. Gabriel Lloyd, LDI Assistant Chair

Gabe Lloyd is the Assistant Chair of the Leadership Development Initiative and has also worked with the Magazine committee as a writer and editor. Gabe is a native of Washington, DC, and is concentrating in Government and studying Arabic. He took a year off before coming to Harvard to work for the Obama campaign, travel in the Middle East, and ranch cattle in the Australian outback. At Harvard, he rows for the Varsity Lightweight Crew Team, and has worked with the Institute of Politics on various programs. Gabe is interested in Middle Eastern studies and national security policy, loves skiing and being outdoors, and can be reached at glloyd@college.harvard.edu.

Rexhi Dollaku

Born in Ulcinj, a beautiful little Mediterranean town bordering Montenegro and Albania, Rexhi (pronounced Reggie) grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is currently a junior at Harvard College, where he is concentrating in Economics with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Outside of the classroom, Rexhi serves on the editorial board of The Harvard Crimson, is a member of the Leadership Development Initiative at Harvard College, and a healthcare sector analyst for Global Platinum Securities, a unique student-run investment corporation. Combining his love of the life sciences, his interest in economics, and his passion for social responsibility, Rexhi enjoys exploring companies in the healthcare sector while also planning new opportunities for students to explore their own leadership potential. In his spare time, Rexhi loves sports, (especially soccer and golf), music, film, reading, writing, learning, and spending time with family and friends.

Tunc Kiymaz

Tunc Kiymaz is a junior in Leverett House interested in studying biomedical engineering. His hopes for the future include going to medical school and becoming an orthopedic surgeon. He is originally from Turkey (lived in Ankara) and now lives in Orlando, Florida. He is a member of the varsity tennis team and enjoys playing other sports like soccer and basketball. He is a fan of the Orlando Magic but is willing to forgive any Boston Celtics or Detroit Pistons fans for their sin. In the Leadership Institute at Harvard College, Tunc is a member of the Leadership Development Initiative.

Liora Simozar

Liora Simozar is currently a junior in Dunster studying Applied Mathematics in the field of Economics. She’s extremely interested in technology and internet development, and hopes to work in the Startup scene of Los Angeles after college. At Harvard, aside from working with LIHC, she works in both the Economics and Mathematics Departments as a teacher’s assistant and grader, and enjoys the teaching side of education. She is also the Website Director of Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business and treasurer of the Dunster House Committee.

Jenna Louie

Jenna Louie is a currently sophomore at Harvard and hopes to concentrate in Social Studies with an interdisciplinary focus on sociology and international relations. Having grown up in Honolulu, Hawaii, she is still adjusting to the chilly New England weather but has enjoyed the change nonetheless. Apart from serving with LIHC as a member of LDI, she is also involved with the Harvard Youth Leadership Initiative, the Harvard College Consulting Group, the Harvard College Women’s Frisbee team, and the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter. After college, she would very much like to work in the nonprofit sector before attending Law School.

Craig Herron

Craig Herron was born on Travis AFB in California. The son of an Air Force pilot, Craig has lived in many places across the United States, went to high school in Germany, and enjoys visiting his family in London during the holidays. His international background led Craig to concentrate in government where he is especially interested in international relations, foreign policy, and the United States’ role in the world. Craig is a member of Harvard’s Varsity Lightweight Crew team and the London Rowing Club. He enjoys reading and golfing in his free time. He can be reached at joe.herron@college.harvard.edu.

The Presidents’ Forum (TPF)

Chair: Peter Chen

Peter Chen, TPF Chair

Peter Chen is a junior in Winthrop House and currently serves as chair of The Presidents’ Forum. Originally from Ohio, Peter was highly involved with leadership activities during high school and enjoyed playing the violin. At Harvard, Peter is concentrating in Economics with a secondary in Psychology. He is also a member of the Undergraduate Council and numerous business organizations on campus. As chair, Peter works hard to encourage collaboration among student leaders on campus as well as foster leadership on campus. Stuti Joshipura

Stuti is a current junior in Currier House, concentrating in Economics. She is originally from San Jose, California, but is loving the snow up in Cambridge! She became interested in student leadership in high school, where she was active in student government and community groups, and pursued that interest as a member of The President’s Forum. At Harvard, she participates in Veritas Financial Group and the Harvard South Asian Association. Outside of Harvard, she is involved in the community and loves to teach children dances, which they later perform at charity shows. In her free time, she loves to eat some Taco Bell, root for the 49ers, and watch re-runs of Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Boy Meets World!




Raphael Haro

Raphael Haro is a sophomore living in Dunster who became a member of LIHC last spring. He plans to concentrate in Economics while pursuing a secondary in Government. He is from Miami, FL and is a huge Marlins, Dolphins, and Heat fan. Although a big supporter of the Harvard Crimson, he still loves his hometown Miami Hurricanes. On campus, he writes for the Crimson sports section, plays club baseball, and writes for the Political Review. He is excited to be a part of the President’s Forum Committee.

Ece Erdagoz

Ece Erdagoz is a sophomore from Istanbul, Turkey and is one of the exotic internationals. She is planning on concentrating in Economics with a secondary concentration in Government. She is on the board of the College Events Board and was responsible for stage managing Harvard Thinks Big 2. She is involved in Model UN where she is staff member for both the college and the high school conferences organized by Harvard. She is also involved in the Forum Committee of the IOP, and was the freshman representative on the Woodbridge International Society. And she never says no to chocolate.

Paul Kim

Paul is a junior in Adams House, concentrating in Economics with a secondary in Neurobiology. He is originally from Toronto, Canada, but currently calls Short Hills, New Jersey home. At Harvard, Paul is a member of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies Undergraduate Board, Team HBV, and various PBHA programs. Outside of Harvard, Paul helps organize cultural events, consults educational initiatives, and tutors. In his free time, Paul likes to watch unhealthy amounts of TV, play basketball, and draw.

Social Outreach (SO)

Chair: Brianne Holland-Stergar

Brianne Holland-Stergar, SO Chair

Brianne Holland-Stergar is a junior living in Dunster House studying History and Science, with a secondary field in Dramatic Arts. Originally from Butte, Montana, she hopes to focus her leadership activities around youth and young women from rural areas and underprivileged backgrounds. In her spare time, Brianne regularly performs in theatrical productions here at Harvard, plays club basketball and club volleyball, and spending time hiking and exploring in the great outdoors. After graduation, she hopes to return to the West Coast a pursue a career in social justice law.

Frank Maldonado, Assistant Chair

Frank is a junior living in Lowell House studying neurobiology as a pre-medical student. Frank comes from Alexandria, Virginia and attended three different high schools. In the classroom, he enjoys focusing on laboratory work while writing the occasional literature essay. Outside of the classroom, Frank writes opinions on the Harvard Crimson and the Harvard Political Review, plays tennis, develops ideas with the Community Action Committee, supports the Latino Men’s Collective, and works in Widener library. As part of the Leadership Institute, Frank bridges his interest in teaching and curriculum development to help with the organization of the Citizen School’s apprenticeship program. In his spare time, outside of the lab and away from student organizations, Frank enjoys chess, writing in stream of consciousness, and practicing twirling his pen with one hand.



Akansha Tarun

Akansha Tarun is a junior in Cabot House and currently serves as the Director of Outreach and Expansion. She is concentrating in philosophy and possibly mathematics or chemistry. As Director of Outreach and Expansion, her vision is to reach out to as many children as possible, both at the local level, through “Yes, We Can Lead!” but also at an international level, through “Youth Lead the Change:” a self-sustaining leadership and service program for youth. In her free time, Akansha loves playing basketball, being in the city - both Boston and her hometown of Chicago - and helping her little brother with his modeling and acting career. Keith Martinez

Keith Martinez is a senior at Harvard concentrating in Social Anthropology. He is originally from El Paso, Texas. Within the Leadership Institute, Keith works with the social outreach initiative teaching leadership to middle school students in the Boston area. Keith is also a member of the Amigos y Lectores Reading Buddies Program, the Harvard College Consulting Club, and the planning committee of HSYLC. He is interested in identifying ways to implement the intersection of social entrepreneurship, education, consulting, and leadership. In his free time, Keith enjoys playing soccer, learning guitar, dancing salsa, and working out.

Obianujunwa Anakwenze

Ujunwa Anakwenze is a junior at Harvard College studying Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology. She is interested in investigating the intersection of science, health, and society. In addition to her work within the Leadership Institute’s Social Outreach Committee, Ujunwa is actively involved with Harvard College Faith & Action (HCFA) as a chairperson for the Christian organization’s service and social justice endeavors. She has also worked with the Harvard Global Hunger Initiative (GHI) through an internship that brought her to Uganda, where she collaborated with a rural hospital and several others to refine a child malnutrition treatment program. You can usually find Ujunwa laughing with friends, cultivating new talents, or studying for a science exam.


Harvard Undergraduate Leadership Magazine (HULM)

Editor in Chief: Linxi Wu

Linxi Wu, Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Undergraduate Leadership Magazine

Linxi Wu is a sophomore currently living in Dunster. She joined LIHC last  year as the managing editor of the Leadership Magazine. She will probably concentrate in economics with a secondary in Classics at Harvard. Besides LIHC, she’s involved in HUTV, WIB, and HCCG. She likes Annenberg’s food, misses having lots of animals around to pet, and loves watching all the psychological thriller shows on TV. She can be reached at linxiwu@college.harvard.edu.

Stephanie Grayson

Stephanie Grayson is a sophomore at Harvard and serves as the features editor for the Institute’s Harvard Undergraduate Leadership Magazine. A proud New Yorker, Stephanie is loving her time getting to know a brand new city (despite its freezing temperatures and overwhelming love of the Red Sox!). For as long as she can remember, Stephanie has been an active volunteer in outreach initiatives ranging from Habitat for Humanity to Amnesty International. Stephanie has continued her commitment to giving back through her work with the Mission Hill After School Program and Habitat for Humanity at the collegiate level. Though currently undecided, Stephanie is interested in pursuing an Economics concentration, and one day hopes to explore social entrepreneurship and business.

Victoria Venegas

Victoria Venegas is a junior in Adams House concentrating in sociology. Born in Chicago but raised in San Antonio, TX, Victoria represents her love for both cities as a proud White Sox and Spurs fan. Within LIHC, Victoria is a Section Editor for the Harvard University Leadership Magazine and enjoys working on the dynamic Magazine team to expand and deepen the Magazine’s impact on campus. Victoria is also a writer for The Harvard Crimson and spent the past summer working in New York City for People Magazine. In her free time, Victoria enjoys cooking and traveling. Jia Jia Zhang

Jia Jia Zhang is the Director of Finance for the Harvard Undergraduate Leadership Magazine. She is a junior in Mather House concentrating in biomedical engineering. She is originally from Battle Creek, Michigan, where she attended Lakeview High School and the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center. Jia Jia is very interested in science and medicine and fascinated by the natural world. She is also passionate about leadership and leadership development. In her free time, she loves to read, work out, spend time with her friends and family, and try exotic foods. She loves nature and being outdoors.

External Relations (ER)

Chair: Pooja Venkatraman

Pooja Venkatraman, ER Chair

Pooja Venkatraman is a senior in Currier House from Princeton, NJ. She is an English concentrator with a citation in Spanish. Before joining LIHC, Pooja was on the board of the Harvard Political Review as well as a member of the Harvard Parliamentary Debate Society. After college, Pooja plans to go to law school. Her summer experiences include working for Ivy Insiders and the New York City Law Department as well as studying abroad in Madrid. Kenny Lee, ER Assistant Chair

Kenny is a sophomore from Plano, Texas living in Quincy. He is most likely going to concentrate in Economics, but as a freshman, he is keeping his options open. At Harvard, he participates in a couple of business organizations and plays the violin in the Mozart Society Orchestra. For fun, he loves to shoot hoops and watch the latest sports broadcasts on TV. His favorite sports team is the Dallas Cowboys, and he hopes they win the super bowl this year. This is his second year in LIHC, and as assistant director of external relations, he hopes to learn more about leadership while helping LIHC grow to new heights.

Blake Elston

Blake Elston is currently a sophomore residing in Winthrop. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he plans on concentrating in economics. He is a member of the External Relations committee within the Leadership Institute at Harvard College. Following an extensive introduction to leadership skills and principles in high school through various programs, Blake has been able to successfully apply these principles to his involvement with the Leadership Institute. Beyond his responsibilities in the Leadership Institute, he is also a writer for the Harvard Crimson Editorial Board and is a member of the Veritas Financial Group. In the future, he hopes to expand his breadth of experiences through community involvement and international travel. After college, his plans center on pursuing a career in finance. In his free time he enjoys running, listening to music, and reading great literature.
